Puri (poori) is a popular Indian breakfast. It is made with plain wheat flour (atta), salt, and water. Masala puri is a little variation to it by adding spices to the wheat flour. Spices adds a flavor to the puri. I like to have it with plain yogurt. Kids would love this puri, it is an excellent lunch box recipe.
Smart Cooking Tips:
- Refrigerate the dough for at least 20 mins. It helps to make puffy puris.

Use rice flour to dust the puris, it helps to avoid the oil from turning black.
- You can add finely chopped coriander leaves, carom seeds in this recipe.

Adding little sooji (rava) helps to keep the puris soft for a longer time.
Masala puri is a delicious recipe for the picnics and potlucks. It is simple to make for the larger crowd. You can knead the dough a day ahead, roll and deep fry the next day for party. Even you can use the chapati press for rolling to save the time and reduce the effort. It goes well with simple potato curry or any spicy curry.

- 2 cups Wheat Flour (Atta)
- 1 tsp Red Chili Powder
- 1 tsp Coriander Powder
- 1.50 tsp Salt (to taste)
- 1 tsp Dried fenugreek leaves (Kasthuri Methi)
- 0.25 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 cup + 1 tbsp water (for kneading dough)
- 2 cups Oil (for deep frying)

In a bowl, add wheat flour, red chili powder, coriander powder, Kasthuri methi leaves, salt, turmeric powder and mix well.

Add water gradually and knead a firm dough. Cover and refrigerate the dough for 20 minutes.

Divide the dough into small balls, roll into flat circles using a rolling pin and deep fry in the hot oil until the puri color changes to golden brown. Masala puri is ready to serve.
How to serve masala puri?
Serve masala puri with aloo (potato) curry, peas curry or any of your favorite side dish.
