How to cook quinoa?
Quinoa is easy to cook similar to white rice. Rinsing the quinoa several times is the important step because quinoa is coated with the natural bitter coating. To get rid of the bitter coating rinsing the quinoa many times is important.
Quinoa – 1 cup
Water – 2 cups
Salt – 1 pinch
- Rinse quinoa thoroughly under cold running water using a fine mesh strainer.
In a deep saucepan, add water, salt and bring to a boil. When the water starts boiling, add quinoa, cover and cook until the quinoa becomes soft and all the water gets absorbed the quinoa.
Uncover the lid, mix gently and serve.
Smart Cooking Tips:
- Let the quinoa cool down before mixing with the coconut mixture that helps to mix evenly.
Adding cashew nuts are optional.
You could replace the quinoa with white rice.

- 1 cup Quinoa
- 1.50 cup Coconut Grated
- 0.50 tsp Mustard Seed
- 1 tsp Urad Dal
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 3 no Dry Red Chilies
- 1 pinch Asafoetida (Hing)
- 1 spring Curry Leaves
- 0.50 tsp Salt (to taste)
- 2 cups Water (to cook quinoa)
In a saucepan, add water, salt and bring to a boil. Add quinoa, cover and cook until the quinoa becomes soft and all the water gets absorbed by quinoa. Uncover the lid, mix gently and let it cool.
In another saucepan, heat oil, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add urad dal, asafoetida, curry leaves, dry red chilies, cashew nuts, and roast until the cashew nuts color changes to golden brown.
Add grated coconut and cook until the coconut gets roasted slightly. Add quinoa, mix well and serve.
