South Indian style arbi roast is an easy and spicy side dish. It is simple to make in just a few mins and goes well with rice varieties.

Indian Arbi Recipes:

Arbi (Arvi) is widely used in Indian cooking. It is known as Taro Root and Colocasia. In South India, it is known as Seppankizangu. It is widely available in the Indian grocery stores. Arbi Curry and Arbi Masala are the popular South Indian recipes using Arbi. It is served with hot steamed white rice and sambar. Soft cooked arbi with the spicy coating and mildly crispy texture from the rice flour together tastes delicious. This Seppankizangu roast is a spicy dish that tastes similar to the potato fry.

Smart Cooking Tips:

  1. Adding rice flour is important, it gives a nice crispy texture to the dish.

  2. Avoid overcooking the arbi, it will become mushy. Just 2 whistles in the pressure cooker are enough. You can boil in the saucepan on the stovetop but it takes 20 – 30 mins to become tender.

  3. Roast over a low to medium and keep stirring regularly it helps to cook evenly on all the sides without getting burned.

Easy Side Dish Recipes:

Arbi roast is an easy side dish that takes only 30 minutes to cook. It is similar to the spicy potato fry. Vegetable stir fries are the part of an everyday meal in the South Indian households. Ingredients
  • 4 no Arbi/Arvi/Taro Root
  • 2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt (to taste)
  • 0.50 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tbsp Rice Flour
  • 2 tbsp Oil
Instructions
  1. Pressure cook arbi for 2 whistles or boil in a saucepan for 20 to 30 min until tender.

  2. Peel and cut them into small chunks. Add red chili powder, salt, coriander powder, turmeric powder, rice flour and mix gently.

  3. In a frying pan, heat oil and add the arbi pieces. Cover and cook over a low to medium flame until the color changes to golden brown on all the sides.

How to serve arbi roast?

Serve arbi roast as a side dish with rice varieties.
